An amazing tool is available for candling eggs without even touching the eggs. This light is made with fiber optics so you can bend it to any angle for candling eggs in wooden nest boxes or in a canary nest. This product is made by Medical Diagnostics Services, Inc., P.O. Box 1441, Brandon, FL 33509-1441. Phone (800) 435-9352 and sells for $25.95 plus $5.00 S&H. This has a 10" flexible shaft, when the cover is used as an extension it will expand to 27" in length. Use it without the extension for canaries and with the extension for parrots. It is battery operated and you can easily replace the batteries when they are worn out.

The advantage to this light is that it has a very powerful light that can be directed on the eggs without even touching it. I have been able to see hearts beating inside of a canary egg at three days old. For a person who is breeding one male with multiple hens, to know if your male is fertile now could save you a lot of problems so you don't have three hens sitting on nests with fifteen infertile eggs.

This product has been around for many years as I first saw it at the American Federation of Aviculture convention in Washington, D.C. back in August of 1982.
