Kermit is a five year old green cheek conure. I got him August 10, 2002 through my bird club's adopt-a-bird program. All the adoptable birds are kept in the back and then during the meeting people can apply to adopt them. Before the meeting began I went back there to see the birds telling myself "No more birds!". Well, something about the little plucked green cheek tugged at my heartstrings. And when I stuck my finger through the bars he came right over and let me sratch him. He was so incredibly sweet. I made the mistake of standing there visiting him for a long time and then decided that bird just had to come home with me. I was hoping no one else wanted him so I wouldn't have any competition. As luck would have it, that is exactly what happened. He was already named Kermit so I guess we'll keep that name. He is badly plucked including all of his tail feathers. Apparently he started to pluck during a stay at the vet's after an unfortunate accident with his owner. He latched on to her lower lip, she panicked and threw him to the ground where he suffered a spinal injury. Luckily over a few months time he regained the use of his legs but the plucking got worse and worse. The previous owner also had a new baby who was being kept awake by Kermit's noise, and alternately Kermit was distressed with the baby's crying. Finally the woman decided to give him a new home. I have gotten some really good advice and hope with some love and attention he will allow some of his feathers to grow back. Green cheeks in full plumage have the most long and beautiful maroon tails. I will love him regardless though. He's so lovable and snuggly.
